Since the Year 2000 problem (often abbreviated Y2K) has been so much in the news lately, we want to offer advice and services to our clients with IBM-compatible personal computers, to help you evaluate the Y2K impact on your company.

Year 2000 Problem Evaluation SERVICES for Personal Computers

Hardware - We will test each personal computer for its ability to roll over and hold dates for the year 2000 and beyond, as well as leap-year date functions for the new century and other concerns. We will report on each computer, and make recommendations for any needed action.

Software - We will inventory the software in use on each PC, and provide a report listing the software maker’s statements as to Y2K compliance, where available. If the software maker has no information as to Y2K compliance, we will so state; and we will offer assessment services for that software separately. Our report will assess the expected impact for non-compliant programs and make recommendations for action to replace or procure program remediation services, where appropriate.

Our charge for these services is a flat $75.00 per PC, regardless of the number of programs found on any individual PC. The service is limited to PC’s and PC-based local area networks.

For companies using PC’s, the year 2000 will not be the end of the world; and not all non-compliant programs or PC’s must absolutely be replaced. Depending on function, some non-compliant hardware or software may continue to be usable. But there are pitfalls, not all obvious.

A compliant program will generate errors if it receives its date from a non-compliant PC. A non-compliant program which does not use critical date functions may continue to be useful beyond 2000. In some instances, replacement of a non-compliant program may be more cost-effective than remediation programming; in others, not. We can help you to make these decisions.

We offer up to ten minutes of telephone advice free. Beyond that, we’ll try to talk you into purchasing our services.
